Athena’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2015
Campbell Mattinson (The Winefront)
Quite a bit of flesh and body to this release. White peach and nectarine flavours in abundance, boosted by further notes of green pineapple. Straw colour, meal and flint as highlights, a gentle crackle of wood spice. It’s well finessed, there’s nothing at all blousy about it, but it feels generous. Chardonnay lovers far and wide will enjoy this. 92/100.
Huon Hooke (The Real Review website) Top Drops
Ranked 72 of 189 Deep, developed, buttercup yellow colour. Rich overt lemon butter and honey aromas; like a toasted crumpet with butter and honey on it! There is abundant sweet fruit on the palate, showing attractive age development, the palate adding barley sugar and toffee nuances. It’s good, but I’m not sure I could drink a lot of it, the flavours are a little overpowering. 92/100
(Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine) 100 Top ‘New release’ Wines 2018
This is a big, powerful Chardonnay with some development adding dimension to its ample, fruit-sweet palate. The colour is deep buttercup yellow, the bouquet showing lemon butter and honey, the palate adding toffee and barley sugar notes. A sipper, rather than a gulper. 92/100
